WHO PUT FINGER PRINTS IN MY SCOPE?!
MASS SHOOTINGS, UNARMED COPS, AND THE BOTTOM LINES

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE THOUSAND OAKS SHOOTING

TOtango

This time it was a crazy guy not a jihadist.  In California where even the thought of a firearm gets you placed on a list.  Where CCWs are as rare as white buffalo.  And where all anti-gun laws tend to be born.  One of the three most gun restrictive places in the country.  California, not Texas, not Arizona and not Florida.

The crazy guy didn't use an evil black rifle with a stack of magazines for the CA legislators to march around with in their latest rantings.  He used a Glock 21 with California-legal 10 round magazines.

And the most astounding thing is that  At least six unarmed off-duty police officers, moonlighting as security guards Wednesday night, were at the bar.  Reports are that one of them stood in front of the gunman to protect a victim.

Lessons learned -

1).  California gun laws didn't do a thing.  Nor will more laws do a thing.  As predicted we have the usual suspects calling for the usual things.  No matter how hard they stomp their feet they can't make firearms disappear any more than we could make communism disappear.

Susan Orfanos says, "I don't want prayers. I don't want thoughts. I want gun control, and I hope to God nobody else sends me any more prayers. I want gun control. No more guns."

An emotional statement given the circumstances, but one that simply will not happen.

2).  Clearly the police are powerless, specially if they refuse to exercise the thing their employer denies the common unwashed citizen in California.  Specially if they leave their pistols at home.  I must say that when I heard that I was without words.  Don't tell me about standing in front of a would-be shooting victim when a small thing left at home could easily have saved a dozen more.

Harsh statement?

Maybe it is, but when the state takes a stance that their officials will protect you as a pretext to denying the common man the ability to be armed for his own protection and then those same officials fail to protect the public due to unpreparedness, there are no words.

3).  Time and time again, an armed citizen, or off duty officer that is on scene by happenstance has killed the bad guy and saved lives.  Here is a link to a discussion on the FBI Report.    But the operative adjective is "ARMED".  When even the police do not fit the requirement what is left for the next victims to do.  The answer is simple...be armed.  Ignore the sign.  Learn good concealment.  And understand that your safety is and always has been, your responsibility.
